whitson Launches Norwegian Continental Shelf Joint Industry Project to Digitize Legacy PVT Data

December 2025 — Whitson is proud to announce the launch of a new Joint Industry Project (JIP) focused on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS), aimed at transforming decades of legacy PVT data into a digital, actionable resource for operators and laboratories across the region.
The NCS holds a wealth of compositional and black oil data in the DISKOS database, but much of it is currently locked in PDFs, Excel files, or even scanned reports, limiting its accessibility and impact. This JIP will digitize, quality-check, and mobilize this information, enabling operators to make more informed decisions, improve multi-field fluid modeling, and streamline workflows.
Through the project, participants will gain access to whitsonPVT, whitson’s cutting-edge digital PVT platform, and benefit from hands-on guidance and training from experienced PVT professionals. By bringing operators and laboratories together, the initiative fosters collaboration, transparency, and a shared approach to maximizing the value of Norway’s extensive PVT data.
“We see enormous untapped potential in the NCS PVT datasets,” said Markus Hays Nielsen at whitson. “By digitizing and mobilizing this data, we can support smarter decisions, enable integrated modeling, and create a collaborative environment where operators and labs can work together more effectively.”
The JIP is now open for participation, offering operators and laboratories an opportunity to help shape the project and gain early access to this digitized, high-value resource.
